Supporting Guilden Sutton Preschool with New Toilet Facilities
The Ursula Keyes Trust is delighted to support Guilden Sutton Preschool with a grant towards the installation of new toilet facilities, helping to create a safer, more practical and nurturing environment for young children.
Guilden Sutton Preschool has been at the heart of the local community for around 40 years. Based in the Marigold Room at Guilden Sutton Village Hall, the charity provides early years care and education for more than 30 children aged between two-and-a-half and five.
At present, the preschool does not have its own toilet facilities. Children have to leave the preschool room and use shared toilets elsewhere in the Village Hall, accompanied by a member of staff each time.
For an Early Years setting, this presents a number of challenges. Most importantly, providing toilet facilities within the preschool room will significantly improve safeguarding by reducing the need for children and staff to leave the secure preschool environment during the day.
The new facilities will also make a real difference to children who are learning to use the toilet independently. Having a toilet readily accessible will encourage successful toilet training, reduce accidents and help children develop confidence and independence.
It will also allow preschool staff to spend more time supporting and engaging with the children rather than regularly accompanying them to facilities elsewhere in the building.
The Preschool has already worked incredibly hard to raise funds towards the project, but increasing building costs meant that additional funding was needed before the work could go ahead. The grant from the Ursula Keyes Trust will help bridge that funding gap and bring the project closer to completion.
The benefits will extend beyond the Preschool. The Marigold Room is also used by local groups including Scouts, Beavers and Cubs, while improved facilities should make the room more attractive for children’s parties and other community activities.
We are very pleased to be able to support a project that will have such a direct and lasting impact on the safety and wellbeing of young children, while also benefiting the wider Guilden Sutton community.
