Supporting Accessibility and Independence at the NeuroMuscular Centre
The Ursula Keyes Trust is pleased to have recently supported the NeuroMuscular Centre (NMC) in Winsford with a grant towards the purchase of a specialist height-adjustable powered office chair. This essential equipment enables individuals with limited core mobility to safely and independently move between sitting and standing positions – an important feature for many of the centre’s users who are living with Neuromuscular conditions.
The NeuroMuscular Centre provides vital support and services for people affected by Neuromuscular conditions such as Muscular Dystrophy, which are progressive, life-limiting muscle-wasting conditions. Around 50% of NMC’s volunteers live with a Neuromuscular condition themselves, making accessibility and inclusive design fundamental to the Centre’s day-to-day operations.
The new powered office chair is used not only to facilitate desk-based work and volunteering opportunities, but also plays a key role in the NMC’s specialist Neuromuscular Gym, where it enables safe use of seated exercise machines. The gym supports approximately 25 individuals each day, offering a unique and much-needed space for active therapy and exercise, which is not available through statutory services.
The Ursula Keyes Trust is proud to have a long-standing relationship with the NeuroMuscular Centre and to continue supporting its work in enabling individuals across Cheshire, including the Chester area, to lead more independent, fulfilling lives.
