Creating Connections, Building Confidence: Supporting Live! Cheshire’s Youth Club

The Ursula Keyes Trust is delighted to have awarded a grant to Live! Cheshire in support of their much-valued Youth Club programme, an initiative that provides disabled children and young people with a safe, inclusive space to learn, grow, and have fun.

Based in Chester and serving over 200 disabled people from across Cheshire, Wirral, and North Wales, Live! Cheshire is an independent charity that has been making a profound difference in the lives of disabled individuals since 1993. Through a wide range of tailored, fully inclusive activities, Live! helps participants develop their confidence, independence, physical wellbeing, and social skills.

Our Support: Enabling Life-Changing Experiences

Our funding will contribute to the operational costs of Live! Youth Club from April 2025 to March 2026—a year in which more than 100 disabled children and young people are expected to benefit. Youth Club is not a single programme, but a collection of distinct, engaging activities that cater to varying needs, abilities, and interests. These include:

Inbetweeners – A person-centred social group for young people with mild to moderate learning disabilities, helping them prepare for adulthood through life skills workshops and social outings.

All Stars – An after-school club for children with complex needs, offering sensory activities, inclusive sports, music, and crafts.

Gamechangers – A retro gaming club focused on socialisation and friendly competition in a relaxed setting.

Twilight Trip – Monthly excursions for young people that promote budgeting, communication, and independent living skills.

50 Days of Fun – A weekday holiday programme featuring full-day sessions filled with accessible sports, crafts, baking, and trips to local attractions like Chester Zoo and the cinema.

Each session is carefully structured to be inclusive, engaging, and developmental—helping children and young people build friendships, gain confidence, and enjoy meaningful experiences outside of school or home.

Why This Matters

At the heart of Live! Cheshire’s work is a powerful belief: that disabled children and young people should have the same opportunities for enjoyment, development, and community as anyone else.

The outcomes from Youth Club are far-reaching. Participants benefit from:

  • Improved communication and social interaction
  • Greater self-esteem and confidence
  • Enhanced physical and emotional wellbeing
  • Development of independent living and vocational skills
  • Better employability prospects in the long term

These improvements have a lasting impact—not only on the individuals who attend, but on their families, communities, and wider society.
